I’m pleased that the ACT government has completed construction of UC Hospital, and that the government is mounting a campaign to attract more medical staff to Canberra.
However, most of the new recruits won’t work at UC Hospital; they will have to work at the ageing and largely run-down The Canberra Hospital.
Worse, they will have to navigate the Labor-Greens government’s infamous public health system with long waiting lists, overworked staff, and a poor workplace culture.
Even private specialist practices have difficulty attracting specialists to Canberra for fear of having to deal with the public system.
Health Minister Meegan Fitzharris needs to fix ACT Health if she is going to have any success attracting people to the ACT.
