Labor Health Minister Meegan Fitzharris is harbouring conditions that is driving pharmacy staff at the Canberra Hospital away, Shadow Health Minister Vicki Dunne said.
Government figures obtained by the Canberra Liberals reveal the pharmacy staff turnover rate is “high”, sitting at 32 per cent from January 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018.
Since January 2017, there were 30 resignations. Twenty-seven appointments were made to make up for loss, but six of these appointment have already resigned.
“Pharmacy staff don’t want to work for this government anymore because this government refuses to work for them,” Mrs Dunne said.
“Hospital staff are concerned about pay and working conditions, and they feel like they don’t have the support they need.
“When the Health Minister fails to support our hospital staff, she is also failing to support our patients who need their services.
“It’s not fair for our hospital staff who work long hours and it’s not fair for Canberrans who are paying more and more for health services but are getting less and less.
“Ms Fitzharris seriously needs to bring her attention back to the people she is supposed to serve, and quickly improve conditions for pharmacy staff,” Mrs Dunne said.
